School Council

School councils have a legislated role at their schools and are there to ensure the best possible education for students. Our school councils are comprised of democratically elected representatives of our parent community. Together, they:

focus on student learning and the best interest of all students,
provide a forum through which parents and other members of school communities can contribute to improving student achievement and school performance,
make recommendations to the school principal and the Board on any matter they see impacting accountability and academic excellence and;
serve as a communication and information channel between the school and community

September 2026 Important Information

As we look forward to the 2026-27 school year, we are looking to forming our school council for the coming year. This is a great opportunity to be a part of shaping the Westview experience. Being a part of school council is not about only fundraising it is so much more. It’s a time to dialogue and problem solve with the school principal, learn about our school improvement plans, and have input into routines and procedures at the school level. We will meet after school at least 6 times. Meetings usually only last 1-2 hours. This is a small amount of time to commit.

You can either self nominate or be nominated by another. Nominations will open the first week back in September and will close September 28^th 2026. If we get more than 25 nominations we will have an election on September 30^th, the procedure of which will be communicated if necessary. Nomination Forms will be sent out the first week back in September.

We will then meet for the first time in October, where a chair will be elected from those that are on council.
